Plumbing Tip

  • WATER SAVING TIPS

    • A common water waster is leaky faucets.  Did you know that a dripping faucet can waste as much as 30 gallons of water per day?
    • Do you have a toilet leak?  If you do, you might not even notice.  Put a few drops of food coloring in the tank of your toilet.  If the tank is leaking, color will apprear in the bowl within 15-20 minutes.  Flush immediately after testing.  Having a leaky toilet fixed can save you as much as 100 gallons of water per day.
    • Save up to 1,000 gallons per month:  Turn off the water while brushing your teeth & shaving.
    • Save up to 250 gallons per month:  Rinse fruit & vegetables in a bowl of water instead of under running water.
    • Save up to 1,300 gallons per month:  Replace older toilets with new low-flow models.
    • Save up to 1,000 gallons per month:  Run your washing machine & dishwasher only when full.

Electrical Tip

  • Energy Saving Tips
    • Replace incandescent bulbs with Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs).  CFLs use 75% less energy and last 8 to 10 times longer than incandescent lights when used properly.  Place them in fixtures that remain on for at least 3 hours daily.  If you have a dimmer or a 3 way switch you can still use CFLs you just need to get special CFLs.
    • Turn off lights:
      • Incandescent lights should always be turned off when not in use.
      • Fluorescent lights work optimally when they are not turned off repeatedly, so only turn off when you plan to be away for 30 minutes or more.
      • USE day lighting
      • Leave minimal lighting on when you are away from your home.  You may also want to consider having low voltage landscape lighting installed for added safety and savings.
      • Use outdoor lights with a photocell unit or a timer so they turn off during the day.
    • Have your dryer vent cleaned yearly.  A clogged dryer vent causes your dryer to run longer, and can add as much as $20-$25 to your energy bill-that's not green living.  It should only take 34-40 minutes to dry a heavy load of laundry.  If it takes longer you may have a clog.
    • Replacing poor quality windows can save you 10 to 20 percent on home comfort energy.  For greater performance, energy efficiency, and asthetics consider window replacement.  We can help you find the right windows for your home.
